Overview
- The National Weather Service reported at 5:42 a.m. that patchy dense fog would persist until 8 a.m. in Oneida, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Tompkins, Madison and Cortland counties in New York.
- At the same time, an alert covering Northern and Southern Wayne plus Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Pike counties in northeastern Pennsylvania was set through 8 a.m.
- A separate advisory issued at 6:51 a.m. extended dense fog impacts in central and northern Pennsylvania until 9:45 a.m., with some spots dropping below a quarter-mile before improving between 9 and 10 a.m.
- Forecasters said visibility was reduced to about one-half mile or less in many locations, with the worst conditions concentrated in valleys.
- Drivers were urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights and fog lights if available, avoid high beams, leave extra following distance, and in near-zero visibility turn on hazards and pull into a safe location to stop.
