Dense Fog Advisories for Portland Metro and Southern Oregon Through Late Morning

Visibility may drop to a quarter mile as freezing fog develops in some valleys.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service says dense fog will persist in the Portland area, including the Lower Columbia River, Tualatin Valley, West Hills, Chehalem Mountains and the inner metro, until 11 a.m.
  • A separate advisory covers Eastern Curry, Josephine and Jackson counties until 10 a.m., with patchy freezing fog possible where temperatures hover near or below freezing.
  • Forecasters report visibility may fall to one quarter mile or less, creating hazardous travel in valleys and low-lying corridors.
  • Drivers should slow down, leave extra following distance, use low-beam headlights or fog lights, and avoid high beams in the low visibility.
  • If visibility drops to near zero, officials advise pulling into a safe location with hazard lights or parking well off the road and leaving only hazards on; pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective clothing.
