Overview
- The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for south Alabama at 6:22 a.m., in effect until 11 a.m., covering Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, Covington, Mobile and Baldwin counties.
- A separate advisory posted at 12:50 p.m. covers central Alabama for Friday from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m., including Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Pike and Barbour counties.
- Forecasters expect visibility to fall to one quarter mile or less in spots, with patchy fog producing rapid changes over short distances.
- Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, leave extra following distance and follow a zero-visibility protocol that includes pulling into a safe location, using only hazard flashers, setting the emergency brake and keeping brake lights off.
- Meteorologists note the advisory area may need to expand farther north and east, while a short-duration dense fog alert was issued in Hillsdale County, Michigan, early Wednesday.
