Denmark’s QuNorth Secures €80 Million to Build Magne Quantum Computer

Now launching a CEO search, the Denmark-owned venture prepares to break ground in autumn 2025.

Overview

  • The Novo Nordisk Foundation and EIFO have committed €80 million to QuNorth to develop Magne, Europe’s first operational Level 2 quantum computer.
  • Microsoft will supply its Azure Quantum software stack and Atom Computing will provide neutral-atom hardware for the system.
  • Magne is designed to start with 50 error-corrected logical qubits supported by over 1,200 physical qubits to push toward true quantum advantage.
  • QuNorth has begun recruiting a chief executive and plans an initial team of about 10 staff alongside four academic research positions.
  • Site construction in Copenhagen is slated for autumn 2025 with operations targeted by early 2027 to accelerate breakthroughs in drug discovery and materials science.
