Overview
- Public broadcaster DR reported that at least three U.S. citizens with ties to President Trump carried out influence activities in Greenland that sources described as infiltration.
- The alleged efforts included compiling lists of U.S.-friendly Greenlanders, cultivating contacts with politicians and business leaders, and gathering material to portray Denmark negatively in U.S. media.
- Denmark’s domestic intelligence service PET said Greenland is currently a target of influence campaigns intended to sow discord between Nuuk and Copenhagen.
- Danish authorities said there is no public evidence the individuals acted on U.S. government orders, though one has been seen frequently with Trump and two reportedly worked for him previously.
- The U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, led by chargé Mark Stroh, did not immediately comment, and the move follows Denmark’s earlier condemnation of alleged U.S. spying and Trump’s stated goal of acquiring Greenland, including his refusal to rule out force.
