Overview
- Novo Nordisk Foundation and Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund have committed €80 million to form QuNorth as a wholly Danish-owned quantum computing venture.
- The computer, named Magne after a Norse mythological figure, will pair Atom Computing’s hardware with Microsoft’s Azure Quantum software to run 50 logical qubits backed by more than 1,200 physical qubits.
- QuNorth is actively recruiting a CEO and has started assembling an initial team of about ten staff to steer development and operations.
- Construction of Magne is set to begin in autumn 2025, with first operational runs targeted around the turn of 2026/27.
- By delivering Europe’s first Level 2 quantum system, the project seeks to secure quantum advantage in drug discovery and materials science and bolster the region’s competitiveness against the US and China.
