Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres Corrects Mistaken Vote Against Resolution Condemning Hamas Supporters at Universities

Despite proclaiming his strong stance against antisemitism, Torres joined 22 other Democrats and one Republican in opposing the resolution, which aimed to combat heightened antisemitism at U.S. colleges and universities following recent Hamas-Israel tensions.

Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres mistakenly voted against a resolution condemning support for Hamas at U.S. colleges amidst the Israel and Hamas conflict. He later submitted a correction to his vote.
Despite his mistaken vote, Torres continues to express his strong stance against antisemitism and his disdain for pro-Hamas protestors.
This resolution, passed by a 396 to 23 vote, calls on university administrators to combat antisemitism by ensuring Jewish faculty and students can exercise free speech without intimidation.
The resolution was mainly opposed by Democrats, including high profile progressive democrats. Republican Representative Thomas Massie was the lone Republican to vote against the resolution, expressing concerns about free speech.
Alongside Torres, fellow pro-Israel Democrat Representative Brad Schneider criticized the conditional nature of House Speaker Mike Johnson's proposed aid package for Israel.
