Demi Moore and Sebastian Stan Lead Spirit Awards Nominations

The 40th Independent Spirit Awards will honor standout independent films on February 22 in Santa Monica.

Demi Moore is nominated for her performance in the body-horror film 'The Substance,' while Sebastian Stan is recognized for portraying a young Donald Trump in 'The Apprentice.'
The gender-neutral Best Lead Performance category also includes Amy Adams ('Nightbitch'), Colman Domingo ('Sing Sing'), Mikey Madison ('Anora'), and June Squibb ('Thelma').
The Cannes-winning 'Anora' and horror-drama 'I Saw the TV Glow' lead the nominations with six each, competing for Best Feature alongside 'Nickel Boys,' 'Sing Sing,' and 'The Substance.'
German film editor Hansjörg Weißbrich is nominated for Best Editing for his work on 'September 5,' though no German films are competing in the Best International Film category this year.
The Spirit Awards, honoring films with budgets under $30 million, have previously recognized Oscar winners like 'Moonlight,' 'Birdman,' and 'Nomadland.'
