DEME Orders SALT 310–Based Offshore Construction Vessel From PaxOcean for 2028 Delivery

The methanol-ready, hybrid-powered design advances DEME’s lower-carbon fleet strategy.

Overview

  • The vessel will be built by PaxOcean at the Zhoushan shipyard in China and is intended to expand DEME’s subsea cable operations.
  • Configured for trenching, burial, and cable-laying, it will carry two 2,500-ton cable carousels and accommodate up to 123 people.
  • Key specifications include the SALT 310 design at 123 meters, DP2 dynamic positioning, a 150-ton active heave-compensated crane, and a hangar for two work-class ROVs.
  • A hybrid 1,000-kWh battery system and methanol-ready propulsion are intended to provide future fuel flexibility and reduced emissions.
  • DEME estimates the investment at €50–150 million, says the ship will complement Living Stone and Viking Neptun, and notes it follows the launch of a green methanol–prepared dual-fuel fallpipe vessel last summer.
