Delta Hospital ER Closes Overnight Saturday Over Doctor Shortage
The move marks the third overnight shutdown this year at the site during a wider staffing crunch.
Overview
- Fraser Health will suspend emergency services from 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
- The 6 p.m. cutoff was set so patients already in the department can see a physician before ER doctors finish their shifts at 1:30 a.m.
- Emergency‑trained nurses will remain on site to provide basic care to walk‑ins and arrange transfers to neighbouring hospitals.
- All other services at Delta Hospital will stay open overnight, and other Fraser Health ERs will operate but may see longer waits for non‑urgent cases.
- People with life‑threatening symptoms should call 911, while non‑urgent questions can go to Fraser Health Virtual Care, B.C.’s 811 nurse line, or the Fraser Health Crisis Line.
