Delta Flight DL1830 Clips Empty Plane During ATL Gate Pushback

Ground crews removed both aircraft for inspection, delaying the Guatemala City flight by several hours.

Overview

  • Delta confirmed that the wing of DL1830 struck an unoccupied Delta jet during pushback at Hartsfield–Jackson AtAtlanta International Airport with no injuries reported.
  • All 192 passengers and six crew members were reassigned to a replacement aircraft after the contact, pushing the scheduled 10:41 a.m. departure back to around 2:03 p.m.
  • Delta said the Boeing 757-200 operating DL1830 and the empty aircraft were immediately grounded for detailed safety inspections.
  • FlightAware data showed the incident added nearly three and a half hours to the flight’s journey to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City.
  • Investigators are reviewing conflicting accounts of the aircraft types involved and the extent of damage as part of a wider review of recent ground-operation safety events.
