Overview
- Delta began selling Basic-tier premium fares on July 8, 2026, with Delta First Basic already flying in select U.S. and Latin markets and Premium Select Basic plus Basic Business available for purchase for travel starting in September.
- Basic premium tickets keep the identical onboard seat and service but remove many ground and flexibility benefits, including advance seat assignment, complimentary lounge and Delta One check-in, complimentary or paid upgrades, and same-day confirmed changes.
- Delta published specific limits: seats assigned after check-in, typically one fewer complimentary checked bag on routes with free bags, reduced SkyMiles accrual, reinstated change or cancellation fees, and no basic-level award availability in premium cabins.
- Basic Business fares will temporarily retain Delta One check-in and lounge access through January 18, 2027, after which lounge entry requires a separate Sky Club membership or an access-granting credit card or elite credential.
- The move follows similar rollouts by competitors and lets airlines unbundle premium offerings to sell lower entry prices while monetizing ground services, a change that could shift how frequent flyers buy upgrades, wallets and lounge access.
