Overview
- Delta announced and began selling the expanded Basic fares on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with Delta First Basic available for immediate travel in select domestic and Latin markets and Delta Premium Select Basic and Basic Business on sale for travel beginning in September.
- Basic fares preserve the onboard product in each cabin so customers still get the same seats, meals and amenities but lose many ground and flexibility perks such as advance seat assignment, complimentary or paid upgrades, higher mileage earn and same-day confirmed or standby changes.
- Delta will allow Basic Business tickets temporary access to the Delta One Lounge and Delta Sky Club for travel through Jan. 18, 2027, after which lounge entry will require a membership, eligible credit card or a Classic/Extra fare credential.
- Basic tickets carry fewer checked bags on routes where bags are free under Classic fares, can be changed or canceled only for a fee and receive eCredits for future travel, while some cardholders and Medallion exceptions may still affect baggage or club access.
- The move follows similar premium-cabin segmentation by other carriers and is meant to let Delta capture more revenue from high-spending travelers by offering a lower-priced, less flexible premium option that fills seats without lowering standard premium fares.
