Delta Connection Jets Collide on LaGuardia Taxiway, Injuring Flight Attendant

Federal investigators are reviewing how a departing Endeavor Air CRJ-900’s wing struck an arriving jet’s cockpit during taxi at LaGuardia.

Overview

  • Endeavor Air Flight 5155, departing for Roanoke, contacted the nose of arriving Flight 5047 from Charlotte around 9:56–9:58 p.m. on Oct. 1, according to preliminary information.
  • The departing jet’s right wing clipped the other aircraft’s fuselage near the cockpit, shattering a windscreen and tearing a wingtip, based on photos and air traffic control audio.
  • One flight attendant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, and no passenger injuries were reported by Delta or the Port Authority.
  • Both aircraft were CRJ-900 regional jets operated for Delta by Endeavor Air, carrying a combined 85 passengers who were deplaned on the taxiway, bused to the terminal, and provided hotels and rebooking.
  • The FAA has opened an investigation, with NTSB involvement reported, and Delta says it is cooperating as airport officials reported no broader impact to LaGuardia operations.
