Delhi’s Yamuna Cruise Nears Launch as Vessel Heads From Mumbai for February Debut

Officials present the short Yamuna corridor as a green tourism pilot backed by the ports ministry alongside Delhi, with initial jetties and safety gear already installed.

Overview

  • Tourism minister Kapil Mishra inspected the under-construction 40-seat vessel in Mumbai and said it is almost ready.
  • The boat is scheduled to leave Mumbai on January 20, reach Delhi in three to four days, and have its engine fitted before a planned February launch by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
  • Service will run a 6–7 km round trip between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur on National Waterway-110 using an electric–solar hybrid craft.
  • Two floating jetties at Sonia Vihar are in place, with life jackets, public announcement systems and onshore facilities to support hourlong cruises with food and music.
  • The Rs 20 crore project includes plans for water sports, a leisure zone and links to nearby metro stations to build riverfront tourism.
