Delhi’s MCD and Northern Railway Roll Out ‘Mosquito Terminator’ Train

The wagon-mounted sprayer targets stagnant water along tracks during the monsoon peak.

Overview

  • The special train was flagged off at New Delhi railway station by Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh with senior MCD and Northern Railway officials present.
  • A truck-mounted power sprayer on a wagon disperses anti-larval chemicals up to 50–60 metres on both sides of the tracks to reach areas that manual drives miss.
  • Northern Railway says each trip covers roughly 50 km, with 12 spray rounds planned across NCR routes through September 27.
  • Officials frame the campaign as a seasonal push to curb dengue, malaria and chikungunya by treating breeding sites along line-side stretches.
  • MCD urged residents to prevent water stagnation at home, and the commissioner said dengue cases are lower than during the same period last year.
