Overview

  • On May 29, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a Medical Genetics Ward, a Lactation Management Unit and a Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAT) lab at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
  • The Medical Genetics Ward is the first in a Delhi government hospital and the fourth in India under NMC-recognised colleges, providing diagnosis, treatment and research on rare genetic disorders.
  • The Lactation Management Unit will collect and supply donor human milk to premature and critically ill infants, targeting reductions in neonatal sepsis, malnutrition and infant mortality.
  • The new NAT lab slashes blood-screening turnaround from up to 45 days to just two days, enhancing safety and reliability of transfusions across all age groups.
  • Delhi currently has 0.42 government beds per 1,000 people—below WHO’s two-bed standard—and plans to raise the ratio to at least three beds per 1,000 within five years.
