Delhi’s Dust Crackdown Intensifies With Real-Time Surveillance, Rs 2.36 Crore Fines and 48 Closures

Real-time monitoring through the DPCC portal drives on-site compliance at large construction projects.

Overview

  • Since October 15, officials inspected 1,262 construction sites, registered 747 on the DPCC portal, issued over 200 show-cause notices, and ordered 48 shutdowns with penalties totaling about Rs 2.36 crore.
  • The MCD Standing Committee directed shift-wise operation of mechanical sweepers, 72-hour repair timelines for breakdowns, and 24-hour clearance of loose soil and debris.
  • Under NCAP funding of Rs 33.74 crore, the MCD has deployed 28 multifunction sprinklers and moved to procure 14 mechanical road sweeping machines, with a letter of intent issued on October 15 and supply expected within three months.
  • Targeted on-ground operations continued in hotspots such as Okhla, along with a difficult waste-lifting drive in Sangam Vihar, where officials reported dozens of tipper loads cleared from narrow lanes.
  • In Gurugram, GMDA and MCG increased joint checks on dust sources, stepped up water sprinkling and mechanical sweeping, and began penalising violators under a centrally monitored enforcement push.
