Delhi’s Air Quality Improves Slightly to ‘Very Poor’; Hotspots Still ‘Severe’

Stagnant, colder weather is expected to keep pollution in the very poor to severe range for several more days.

Overview

  • Citywide AQI measured about 370–373 on Friday morning, easing from 391 on Thursday, according to CPCB data.
  • Thirteen of 39 stations remained in the severe band, led by Wazirpur at roughly 442, with Anand Vihar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Mundka and Rohini also above 400; nearby Ghaziabad registered a severe 431.
  • GRAP Stage 3 restrictions continue, and the Supreme Court approved earlier, stricter GRAP triggers and directed subsistence allowances for construction workers affected by curbs.
  • Delhi authorities suspended outdoor sporting activities in schools following court guidance to protect children during the pollution episode.
  • Official modelling pointed to dominant local sources, estimating vehicular emissions at about 16–17 percent of the load and stubble burning at roughly 2–3 percent.
