Delhi’s Air Quality Hits Season High at 391 as Smog Blankets City

Stage 3 emergency curbs remain off despite Supreme Court guidance lowering GRAP thresholds last winter.

Overview

  • Central Pollution Control Board data at 7–8 am showed the citywide AQI at 391, with more than half of Delhi’s 39 stations in the ‘severe’ band.
  • IITM’s Decision Support System estimated roughly 31–32% of PM2.5 came from stubble burning, with ‘very poor’ air forecast through November 11.
  • Several hotspots crossed 430 AQI, including Bawana, Wazirpur and Rohini, while sites like Akshardham and ITO also reported ‘severe’ readings.
  • The Commission for Air Quality Management had not activated GRAP Stage 3, which would restrict older diesel and petrol vehicles and halt most construction and demolition across Delhi-NCR.
  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urged carpooling, greater use of public transport and work-from-home, and the DPCC rejected claims of faulty or manipulated monitoring data.
