Overview
- Officials confirmed the inauguration of Sarai Kale Khan on the RRTS and the Majlis Park–Maujpur Pink Line extension on September 17 after full-corridor trials.
- The 27 km final stretch, including Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram in Meerut, finishes the 82.15 km Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut route beyond the 55 km already in service.
- Namo Bharat trains are slated to run at up to 160 km/h with end-to-end trips under 60 minutes and headways improving from roughly 15 minutes to about 10 minutes.
- For the first time in India, Meerut Metro local services will share RRTS tracks, enabled by a hybrid ETCS Level 3, LTE-based system with ATO and platform screen doors.
- The 12.3 km Pink Line link adds eight elevated stations, including a 1.4 km double-deck viaduct, while Sarai Kale Khan is set to function as a hub linking metro, rail and bus networks; current RRTS ridership is about 60,000 daily with projections to remove around 100,000 cars.
