Overview
- ASI Sushil Sharma, the investigating officer in a Govindpuri quarrel case, joined the Delhi Police in 1990 and had been posted at the station for two years.
- After the complainant paid Rs 5,000, vigilance officers laid a trap to catch Sharma demanding the balance inside the police station.
- Sharma directed the complainant to hand over the remaining Rs 5,000 to a tea vendor acting as a middleman, who was arrested alongside him during the sting.
- Police recovered the bribe money from Sharma’s pocket, filed an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and secured 14-day judicial custody for both accused.
- The Vigilance Unit is continuing its probe and has urged citizens to report police misconduct via its helpline.
