Delhi Unveils Vastra Katha to Showcase Sustainable Handloom

Organizers plan a 24-stall GI exhibition with a Vedic-themed ramp walk backed by a Rs 50 crore skilling initiative.

Overview

  • Vastra Katha will open on August 6 at Hotel Ashoka in Delhi with 24 stalls exhibiting rare GI-tagged textiles from more than 20 states and union territories.
  • Prominent designers Rahul Mishra, Sanjay Garg, Surekha Jain, Rina Dhaka and Pernia Qureshi will mentor artisans and curate collections throughout the event.
  • Over 150 students from leading Delhi colleges will curate exhibits and model handloom creations in a fashion show themed on Vedic civilisation.
  • The showcase is underpinned by a newly announced Rs 50 crore skilling fund and a reform roadmap to make the Delhi Khadi and Village Industries Board sustainable by year-end and profitable by 2026.
  • Organizers aim to trace khadi’s roots from the Vedic period to India’s freedom movement while promoting eco-friendly, climate-conscious fashion.
