Overview
- Union housing minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the plan with Delhi leaders and said the Centre will assist with implementation and funding.
- The programme is estimated at Rs 57,362.85 crore and divides the capital into three basins: Najafgarh (~Rs 33,499 crore), Barapullah (~Rs 14,547 crore) and Trans-Yamuna (~Rs 9,317 crore).
- Implementation will span five years in two phases, prioritising hotspot fixes in years one and two, followed by large-scale network works from year three, with testing and handover targeted by 2029–30.
- The citywide design covers roughly 18,958 km of drains across eight agencies and incorporates nature-based solutions such as diverting stormwater to lakes and wetlands, alongside AI-driven planning.
- Outcome goals include halving waterlogging incidents within three years, cutting flood-related accidents by 30% within five years, and improving water quality at Yamuna outfalls by 20%.
