Delhi Unveils Rs 5 ‘Atal Canteen’ Plan, 100 Sites Targeting Dec. 25 Launch

Digital tokens with CCTV oversight plus accredited lab tests will enforce food safety and transparency.

Overview

  • An inter-departmental committee has cleared recommendations on locations, menu, distribution and management, moving the scheme into pre-launch implementation.
  • Each centre is slated to serve 1,000 meals daily—500 in the morning and 500 in the evening—at a subsidised price of Rs 5.
  • Selected organisations will operate the canteens under real-time monitoring through DUSIB’s digital platform.
  • Food safety measures include periodic testing by FSSAI and NABL-accredited labs, monthly compliance reports, employee health and fire safety certificates, and valid FSSAI licences.
  • Kitchens will use LPG-based cooking with modern appliances, industrial RO water and cold storage, serving a simple menu of dal-chawal, vegetables and roti.
