Delhi Unveils First Large-Scale 200-TPD Biogas Plant at Nangli Dairy

The facility will feed compressed biogas to IGL, with compost distributed to farmers.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the 200-tonne-per-day plant in South West Delhi’s Nangli Dairy, calling for additional units to manage the city’s waste load.
  • The plant is designed to produce about 14,000 cubic metres of raw biogas daily, yielding roughly 5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas for supply to Indraprastha Gas Limited via pipeline.
  • Officials said the operation will also generate around 30 tonnes of compost each day for distribution to farmers.
  • Gupta said the project will help clean drains, cut pollution flowing into the Yamuna, and create green energy and revenue.
  • She accused the previous AAP administration of delaying the project despite funds sanctioned in 2018, stressing that Delhi generates roughly 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung daily and needs many more such facilities.
