Delhi Unveils ₹170-Crore Plan to Upgrade 15 ITIs Into Tech Hubs

Officials say the overhaul ties vocational training to industry via apprenticeships with entrepreneurship support.

Overview

  • The programme adopts a hub-and-spoke model with ITIs Pusa, Shahdara and Mangolpuri guiding up to four spoke campuses each on upgrades, faculty development and industry linkages.
  • DTTE is named the nodal agency for implementation, and officials said the plan follows the Union government’s ITI upgradation framework.
  • New modules will cover AI, robotics, EV maintenance and green energy, with smart classrooms, simulation labs, blended learning and mandatory internships.
  • Centres of Excellence are planned at ITIs Dheerpur, Mayur Vihar and Pusa to train students in industrial automation, robotics and advanced welding.
  • Officials outlined apprenticeship-linked degree pathways at DSEU and DTU, quarterly fairs with a ₹1,000 stipend top-up for women and persons with disabilities, mobile skilling vans with VR welding and solar rigs, and proposed governance via industry SPVs with possible ADB and World Bank co-financing.
