Overview

  • Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh cleared Ishu Gupta, Prem Prakash, Raj Kumar, Manish Sharma, Rahul and Amit of rioting and related charges tied to February 25, 2020 violence.
  • In a 41-page order dated August 25, the court found the prosecution’s lone eyewitness, Head Constable Vikas, completely unreliable with respect to the accused.
  • The judge said the investigating officer engaged in egregious padding of evidence that trampled the rights of the accused.
  • Supervising officers, including the station house officer and assistant commissioner of police, were faulted for forwarding a defective chargesheet in a mechanical manner.
  • The order highlighted discrepancies in medico-legal records for police witness Mohammad Nasir and directed that the judgment be sent to the Commissioner of Police for remedial action, following a similar acquittal of six others in July.
