Overview

  • On June 24, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that registered Kanwar Yatra committees will receive grants ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh through direct benefit transfers, replacing the previous tendering system.
  • Committees must apply for registration by July 30 to qualify for funding, with allocations disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis and a single-window clearance expected within 72 hours.
  • The government will supply up to 1,200 units of free electricity per committee and enforce infrastructure standards covering sanitation, medical aid and security at all Kanwar camps.
  • A new oversight body, the Mukhyamantri Dharmik Utsav Samiti led by Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, will coordinate pilgrimage arrangements across Delhi.
  • Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers will be deployed to strengthen on-ground support and authorities are coordinating traffic and safety plans for the July pilgrimage.
