Overview
- The new system launches on July 1, preventing petrol vehicles over 15 years old and diesel vehicles over 10 years old from receiving fuel in Delhi.
- Around 500 fuel stations have installed ANPR cameras linked to the VAHAN database, and staff have been trained with signage in place for real-time age verification.
- Joint teams from the transport department and traffic police will impound flagged vehicles on-site and levy fines of ₹10,000 for cars and ₹5,000 for two-wheelers, plus towing and parking fees.
- Seized vehicles will be sent daily to registered scrapping facilities, and fuel stations must submit weekly compliance reports to the Commission for Air Quality Management.
- The enforcement will expand to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Sonipat on November 1, with full National Capital Region coverage by April 1, 2026.
