Delhi Targets Three Hospital Beds per 1,000 Residents to Address Shortfall

The initiative includes Rs 10 lakh Ayushman Bharat cover for over-70s with integrated care reforms ahead of a May 31 performance review

Overview

  • Delhi currently has just 0.47 hospital beds per 1,000 people against the WHO’s two-bed minimum and plans to reach three beds per 1,000 by expanding capacity.
  • The government will upgrade existing hospitals and build new facilities to meet its three-bed-per-1,000 target.
  • Under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, residents over 70 will receive up to Rs 10 lakh in treatment cover split equally between the Centre and Delhi.
  • An integrated healthcare system uniting MCD, state and central hospitals is being formed to ensure no patient is denied treatment.
  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will present a detailed report card on May 31 reviewing policy decisions and welfare projects of her first 100 days.
