Delhi Standing Committee Approves Comprehensive Urban Upgrade Plan

Reconstituted panel cleared projects for contract awards, setting a September start for phased implementation of roads, parking, lighting, waste-processing measures

The approvals come after more than two and a half years of deadlock, caused by political and legal disputes.

Overview

  • The One Road–One Day campaign will overhaul one major road per MCD zone each day from September 1 with cleaning, tree pruning, footpath repairs, streetlight restoration and encroachment removal
  • Meat shops operating within 100 metres of schools and religious sites will be banned immediately and illegal or unlicensed outlets ordered to be sealed
  • An ingesta and dung processing plant at the Ghazipur slaughterhouse received approval to process paunch waste and enhance environmental sustainability in East Delhi
  • A Rs 31.6 crore automated multilevel puzzle parking facility at Bharat Darshan Park and a Rs 1,144 crore phased LED public light replacement across four zones were greenlit
  • The committee also approved procurement of 17 backhoe loaders, maintenance of mechanical sweepers and extensions for NGO contracts managing cremation grounds
