Delhi Smog Persists With 'Very Poor' AQI as CAQM Keeps GRAP-3 Off

Citing a slight improvement with forecasts holding in the 'very poor' range, authorities kept tougher curbs on hold.

Overview

  • Delhi’s overall AQI measured 346–354 on Monday morning after a season-high 391 on Sunday, with several hotspots still in the ‘severe’ zone including Bawana at around 412 and Wazirpur near 397.
  • After a Sunday review, the CAQM left only GRAP Stages 1–2 in place, noting a declining daily average (391 at 10 am to 365 by 5 pm) and forecasts from IMD and IITM that keep the city in ‘very poor’.
  • DSS modelling put stubble burning’s share at roughly 5% on Sunday, with experts pointing to overnight stagnation and local emissions such as traffic and construction as the main drivers.
  • Hundreds protested at India Gate over toxic air and were detained by Delhi Police, which cited Jantar Mantar as the designated site for demonstrations; officials reported ongoing on-ground mitigation.
  • The Delhi government announced staggered work hours from Nov 15 to Feb 15 to ease traffic emissions, while health advisories urged vulnerable groups to curb outdoor exposure as ‘very poor’ conditions are expected to persist.
