Delhi Sets Up 21-Member Task Force to Draft Unified Transport Authority and Fund

Led by the chief secretary, the panel will submit recommendations to the lieutenant governor within three weeks.

Overview

  • The task force will design the Delhi Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA) and the Delhi Urban Transport Fund (DUTF).
  • It is tasked with finalising the authority’s structure, geographic remit, board composition, and funding arrangements.
  • The mandate includes stakeholder consultations across central and state agencies and assistance in drafting a DUMTA bill.
  • DUMTA is expected to prepare a strategic mobility plan, coordinate transport agencies across Delhi-NCR, and manage the dedicated fund.
  • The panel includes senior officials from transport, finance, planning and PWD, heads of DMRC, DTC and NCRTC, representatives from DDA, MCD, Delhi Police, NHAI, NDMC, Northern Railways and the Delhi Jal Board, with the urban development additional chief secretary as member secretary.
