Delhi Sets 6,000 E-Buses by Year-End, Targets 7,000–8,000 by February 2026

The next EV policy prioritizes a citywide charging network built with resident groups and private partners.

Overview

  • Transport minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the electric bus fleet has grown from roughly 400 in February to about 3,400 and is projected to reach nearly 6,000 by the end of 2025.
  • Delhi plans to meet a requirement of 7,000–8,000 buses by February 2026 based on route rationalisation, with smaller Devi feeder buses expanding last‑mile service.
  • EV Policy 2.0 is slated for public consultation and could be unveiled by February, with officials indicating it will be announced before the current policy expires in March 2026.
  • Charging availability was identified as the main hurdle, with plans for installations in housing societies, under flyovers and on vacant land through RWA involvement and public‑private partnerships.
  • A DelhiOslo dialogue will support the charging rollout, while an ICCT study released at the summit urges solutions to high upfront costs and financing barriers, including battery leasing and optimised charging strategies.
