Overview

  • The Directorate of Education has mandated a uniform minimum age of six for Class 1 admissions beginning in the 2026–27 academic session.
  • The new framework replaces the 10+2 model with a 5+3+3+4 format that adds three years of pre-primary education.
  • Children will enter nursery at age three, progress to lower KG at four and upper KG at five before advancing to Class 1.
  • All government, government-aided and recognised unaided private schools in Delhi must comply with the revised age criteria and foundational stages.
  • Stakeholders including parents, teachers and experts are invited to submit feedback on implementation by July 10.
