Delhi Schools Launch Year-Long ‘Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan’

Monthly events from essays to pledge drives will guide pupils through planned conservation activities

Overview

  • The Directorate of Education has launched ‘Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan’ to foster environmental stewardship among students in government, government-aided and private schools
  • The campaign runs from July 2025 to March 2026 with monthly themed activities designed to promote water conservation and river cleanliness
  • Schools will begin with an essay competition on the Yamuna in July, followed by drawing and painting contests in August and speeches, debates and skits on pollution in September
  • October’s programme includes Yamuna pledge drives and awareness walks while cultural performances on the river will feature in annual school functions
  • Organizers will partner with NSS units and Delhi Jal Board offices to host interactive sessions, motivational talks and exhibitions to engage students
