Delhi Says Barapullah Phase‑III Flyover Will Open by June 30

Cleared environmental approvals with redesigned long spans limit river and tree impact to allow the corridor’s opening.

Overview

  • Delhi PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh inspected the site on May 26 and set a firm target to open Barapullah Phase‑III to the public by June 30.
  • The project, sanctioned in 2015, has been delayed for years and PWD records show about ₹1,238.68 crore spent so far with total completion costs now expected around ₹1,500 crore.
  • Phase‑III is a roughly 3.5 km elevated extension that will merge with existing Barapullah flyovers at Sarai Kale Khan to form about a 9 km corridor and carry three lanes each way plus eight loops.
  • Officials highlight design and environmental measures including a dedicated cycle track, an elevated pier‑supported structure with pillar spans of nearly 125 metres over the Yamuna floodplain to reduce piers, and a CEC‑ordered joint tree resurvey that kept many trees through pruning or selective transplantation.
  • Authorities say the corridor will cut travel time between East Delhi and AIIMS to about 15 minutes, ease pressure on NH‑24, the DND Flyway and Ring Road, and improve links to NCRTC, rail, ISBT, DMRC and the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway while the ruling party credits cleared approvals for the renewed push.
