Delhi Rolls Out Timed Diversions for Chehlum, Janmashtami and Tazia Processions

The Delhi Traffic Police is enforcing separate morning and afternoon curbs on major routes to manage crowds, limit disruption, protect procession participants.

Overview

  • The Chehlum procession began at 8:30 AM from Pahari Bhojla and moves along major arteries including Jama Masjid Road, Ajmeri Gate Road, Aurobindo Marg and Connaught Place en route to Karbala, Jor Bagh.
  • Authorities expect 20,000–25,000 attendees for the Chehlum gathering, featuring VIPs, diplomats and families.
  • A Janmashtami samuhik shobha yatra will start at 1:30 PM from Mandir Shri Bankey Bihari Ji in Sangatrasan Bazar and pass through Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Chuna Mandi, Main Bazar, Munja Chowk and Arakashan Road.
  • The Tazia procession will set off at 1:30 PM from Ajmeri Gate via Pul Paharganj and DBG Road toward Chelmsford Road and New Delhi Railway Station, triggering timed diversions on these corridors.
  • Some bus services are suspended or curtailed along affected routes, and commuters are advised to plan trips in advance, follow traffic personnel directives and use Delhi Metro for uninterrupted travel.
