Delhi Relaunches U‑Special Electric Buses for University Students

The long-paused service returns as a student-focused step in the city’s broader shift to electric public transport.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the service at Delhi University’s Sports Complex with an initial deployment of 25 buses.
  • Delhi Transport Corporation will operate the EVs on about 25 routes connecting North and South Campus with hubs including JNU and IIT Delhi.
  • The network is planned to serve 67 colleges with schedules aligned to college timings.
  • Buses come with air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, panic buttons and music access via FM and QR codes.
  • Women travel free and men can use DTC student passes, with concessional metro passes under study; one report put the launch at 100 buses, though most coverage cites 25 with expansion to follow.
