Delhi Raises Ration Card Income Cap to Rs 1.20 Lakh, Overhauls Eligibility and Allotment Rules

District panels will prioritise applications using verified income certificates to fill over 8.27 lakh vacancies.

Overview

  • Reforms were cleared by the Delhi Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to make the PDS more fair and transparent.
  • Income certificates issued by the Revenue Department are now mandatory for applications, ending self-certification.
  • Families are ineligible if they own property in A–E category colonies, pay income tax, own a four-wheeler except one commercial vehicle for livelihood, have a government servant in the family, or use electricity above 2 kW.
  • A verification drive found 6.46 lakh income mismatches, 95,682 registered non-recipients, 23,394 duplicates, 6,185 deceased entries and 56,372 opt-outs, creating more than 8.27 lakh open slots.
  • District-level committees led by District Magistrates and including local MLAs will rank applicants by need and maintain a 20% waiting list to address 3.89 lakh pending applications and 11.65 lakh people awaiting coverage.
