Overview

  • The Public Works Department announced that 41 major roundabouts under its remit will be redesigned around themes drawn from different states and Union territories.
  • Motifs cited by officials include Rajasthan’s forts, Odisha’s Konark Sun Temple, Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, Sikkim’s monasteries, Kerala’s backwaters, the Statue of Unity and North-East bamboo craftsmanship.
  • Select sites will feature installations dedicated to the Army, Navy and Air Force to signify valour, discipline and sacrifice.
  • The revamp will use sculptural installations, murals, artistic landscaping, thematic greenery and advanced lighting to blend traditional motifs with modern urban design.
