Delhi PWD Orders Gantry Tolling Pilots, Enforcement Push at Highway Choke Points

Overview

  • After a UT-level coordination meeting, the PWD directed rapid deployment of open-road gantry tolling with ANPR, RFID and FASTag to cut plaza delays and improve transparency.
  • The minister ordered immediate pilot installations at border points, sought monthly compliance reports on congestion and revenue, and tasked NHAI with technical support for modern toll management.
  • Officials targeted bottlenecks at Sirhol–Rajokri (NH-48), the DelhiMeerut Expressway Package-I plaza, Badarpur Border (NH-19/44), the Dwarka Expressway plaza near Bijwasan and obstructions on UER-II between Najafgarh and Bahadurgarh, with urgent upkeep also directed for Mahipalpur Flyover and the Badarpur elevated section.
  • Agencies were told to clear encroachments, remove illegal advertisements and unauthorized parking, stop waste dumping along highways and disconnect unlawful sewer links into storm drains with penalties for violators.
  • Financial accountability was pressed with Rs 50.18 crore in rent arrears at Rajokri and pending remittances from the Badarpur elevated fee plaza flagged for expedited recovery despite ongoing litigation.
