Delhi Police’s Operation Kawach 11.0 Nets 2,000+ Arrests Ahead of MCD Bypolls

Police cast the drive as a pre-poll bid to disrupt narcotics and crime networks citywide.

Overview

  • Launching at 6 pm on November 24, 908 teams conducted more than 1,500 raids at 1,566 locations across all 15 districts.
  • Arrests included 80 in NDPS cases, 273 under excise provisions, 100 under the Arms Act, 213 for gambling, roughly 1,500 for public drinking, plus 24 proclaimed offenders and 16 auto-lifters.
  • Preventive actions included 542 arrests under BNSS Sections 126 and 170, 2,516 placed in preventive custody, 23,387 detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, 3,837 known offenders checked and 4,857 prosecuted under COTPA.
  • Seizures reported by police included 282 grams of heroin, 19.235 kg cannabis, 2.147 kg opium, 2.034 kg charas, 4,704 Tramadol capsules, Rs 1.02 lakh in cash, one pistol, 13 country-made pistols, six live cartridges, 87 knives and large consignments of illicit liquor.
  • Named actions featured the arrest of Lekh Raj alias Vicky with Tramadol and opium in Narela, two Nepal nationals with charas in Sarita Vihar and heroin and opium recovered near Ghazipur; on November 27, Central District police also arrested seven gamblers and three bootleggers under the same framework.
