A senior police officer said the incident came to light on the morning of July 24, when drawings – a few shapes like triangle, a large dot etc – were found on the boundary wall of the station and on a train parked inside the Yamuna Bank metro yard. (Representational image)

Overview

  • Delhi Police have identified two Spanish nationals as prime suspects after tracking an auto-rickshaw route to a Paharganj hotel and verifying their check-in IDs.
  • Investigators say the men entered the Yamuna Bank depot in the early hours of July 24 by scaling a 15-foot wall with a rope and spent about five hours painting, with several yard cameras found non-functional.
  • Phone-data analysis flagged two local and two foreign numbers on the same route near the yard, including a SIM issued on an ID obtained in Gol Market, and police allege fraudulent documents were used.
  • Records show the duo arrived in India on July 16, went to Jaipur on July 18 where similar graffiti was alleged at Sultanpur, returned to Delhi on July 21, and flew to Spain on July 25.
  • An FIR under the DMRC Act and the Delhi Police Defacement of Property Act has been filed, and police are pursuing a Look Out Circular through the Home Affairs ministry while noting the proof gathered so far is not yet prosecution-ready.
