Delhi Police Nab 2017 Matricide Suspect Near Indo–Nepal Border After Years on the Run

Police say months of mobile surveillance led to the arrest, with court proceedings to follow.

Animesh Jha, 42, a Dwarka resident, was declared a proclaimed offender in October 2024 after skipping trial following interim bail granted in 2020.
He was apprehended on the night of December 3–4 from Nautan Road near Sonauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district by a Crime Branch team led by Inspector Gautam Malik under ACP Rajpal Dabas.
Investigators say Jha confessed to killing his mother in 2017 over suspicion that she intended to transfer her property to his sister, a case registered as FIR No. 58/2017 under Section 302 IPC at Dwarka North police station.
Police report the capture followed sustained intelligence collection and advanced mobile-based tracking of movements across the Indo–Nepal border region after he fled to Nepal.
Officials say he has been brought to Delhi to face court proceedings, and they note prior family disputes and reported drug dependence as part of the probe.
