Delhi Police Dismantle Interstate Stolen Car Syndicate, Recover 21 Vehicles

Police say the syndicate trafficked stolen SUVs in North India using forged documents after tampering with chassis numbers.

  • The operation began on May 7 after a tip-off led officers to intercept a Maruti Baleno with forged plates on the DND Flyway, resulting in the arrest of Avtar Singh and Harpreet Singh.
  • Raids in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Ferozepur followed interrogations that identified two more members, Paramdeep and Manpreet, bringing the total arrested to four.
  • Investigators recovered 21 stolen vehicles, including Fortuners, Thars and Cretas, spanning jurisdictions from Saket to Ghaziabad and Gurgaon.
  • Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Gupta says the group acquired cars for Rs 4–5 lakh, altered chassis and engine numbers and produced fake registration documents to disguise their origin.
  • Police continue to probe the network’s suppliers and financing as they seek to uncover further links across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
