Delhi Police Detain Two Bangladeshi Nationals in Mahipalpur as Deportation Begins

The FRRO in New Delhi has started formal removal procedures following an intelligence-led raid.

Overview

  • A South West District Operations Cell team detained two Bangladeshi migrants in Mahipalpur on September 29 for living in India without valid visas for about two years.
  • Police identified the detainees as Md. Abdulaziz Mian, 46, from Tangail, and Md. Rafiqul Islam, 29, from Gazipur in Bangladesh.
  • Both men failed to produce travel documents and acknowledged overstaying after their visas expired, according to a police statement.
  • The operation followed a tip-off about a migrant seeking accommodation in the area, and police described the action as part of a zero-tolerance approach to illegal immigration.
  • Officials said deportation proceedings have been initiated through the FRRO; three others were similarly detained in R.K. Puram on September 26 after identity checks with family in Bangladesh and disclosures of entering on flight visas in 2025 with plans to reach Europe.
