Delhi Police Chief Orders Patrols and Oversight Measures Ahead of Independence Day

He has ordered stepped-up patrols to boost visibility before the capital’s Independence Day celebrations.

Overview

  • Singh convened meetings with senior officers to review security plans for Independence Day functions and to oversee drills by Quick Reaction Teams, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units.
  • He directed all district DCPs to intensify night patrolling and reinforce barricading and random checks at city entry points to block illegal arms and suspicious movements.
  • The commissioner mandated two-hour foot patrols daily from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm by deputy commissioners and station house officers to raise police visibility in crowded markets, transit hubs and border areas.
  • Every police station’s public facilitation desk must now be staffed at all times by two officials, including a woman officer for women’s complaints and a second official for cybercrime grievances.
  • In response to recent CBI arrests of Delhi Police officials on corruption charges, Singh instructed ACPs to closely monitor investigative officers, with a focus on sub-inspectors, to strengthen internal accountability.
