Overview
- Crime Branch teams raided three sites in North-East Delhi — Shiv Vihar, Karawal Nagar and Old Mustafabad — after intelligence on large-scale adulteration before the festive rush.
- Seizures totaled 1,625 kg packed in 105 iron tins along with chemicals, stoves, gas cylinders and packaging gear used to manufacture and distribute the counterfeit product.
- Site-wise recoveries included 520 kg at Karawal Nagar (Safiq held), 440 kg at Shiv Vihar (Yusuf Malik, his son Mehboob, Shakir and Sharukh held) and 665 kg at Old Mustafabad (Zamaluddin held).
- Investigators say the mixture of vanaspati, refined oil and chemical flavourings was packed in tins resembling popular brands and sold to dairies and shops for ₹3,500–₹4,000 per tin after production costs of roughly ₹1,300–₹1,400.
- Police identified Malik as the alleged kingpin and a repeat offender, registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Food Safety and Standards Act, and are tracing suppliers, buyers and financiers; FSSAI warns adulterated ghee poses serious health risks.
